Bio

Chana Greene is a data science manager on the AR/VR Insights & Growth Team at Facebook. She leads a group of data scientists working on first party virtual reality experiences, media use cases, and investments in third party content with the aim of building a robust AR/VR ecosystem for users and developers.

Before taking the leap to tech, Chana served for 8 years as an officer in the United States Air Force. While her official duty title was “Physicist,” her primary responsibilities were better described as technical project management. Chana worked on the developmental Airborne Laser System, countermeasure systems to protect aircraft from missile attacks, and radiation hardened electronics for space applications.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Physics from MIT and a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington. In her spare time, she enjoys playing board games with friends, knitting whimsical toys, and baking cheesecakes to share.

Abstract

Whether it is an exploratory analysis using descriptive statistics or searching for hidden patterns using machine learning, Data Scientists have a large range of techniques at our fingertips. When working with product teams finding the right statistical method is only the first step to making sure our work has impact.

I will walk through examples of projects unique to consumer virtual reality hardware products, the data science techniques behind these analyses and how our team drove business and product decisions.

First I’ll walk us through visualization of telemetry and locomotion data to inform hardware and content decisions. Then I’ll discuss a deep-dive on content as a driver for hardware sales, applying metric exploration and 2D Kernel Density.
